GE Lighting: 4 Comparisons to Make Before Buying Bulbs (Cync, Zigbee, H7 Standard, Grow Light vs UV)

I assumed every "smart" bulb would play nicely with the café's existing Zigbee hub. It didn't. 2. Bulbs for chandeliers vs. standard bulbs: compare the base

But chandeliers usually take a candelabra base (E12), while standard US lamps use E26. I ordered E26 A19s because I didn't know the base size mattered more than the shape. (Surprise, surprise.) I once asked a supplier for "H7 standard" fixtures for a warehouse because I heard the term in conversation and thought it meant "proven standard for lighting." The real specs for building-grade lighting usually come from ANSI/UL, DLC, or local energy codes like Title 24. Compare those, not a car bulb standard.

Which option should you pick?

  • Choose standard LEDs when the job calls for simple, reliable, set-and-forget lighting. Match the base: E12 candelabra for chandeliers, E26/E27 for most standard fixtures, GU10 for some track and recessed lights.
  • Choose grow lights for plants. Choose UV lights for disinfection or curing. Don't choose one because the other is on sale.
  • When someone says "standard," ask which standard. H7 is for vehicles. ANSI/UL/DLC is for buildings.

It took me six years and seven documented mistakes to understand that the best bulb isn't the most popular one—it's the one that matches the protocol, the base, and the application.
